Iram's Manifesto

"The media (newspapers, television, etc) is the super power in today’s society. It influences everyone from the way they wear their hair to the opinion they have on important issues. Adults have used this power to portray youth in a negative image.

For the last year I have been part of the Executive Committee for Broxtowe Youth Council and have campaigned for a more positive image. We have had late nights and early mornings organising an event which could show youth in a positive light in the media. We organised Broxtowe Youth Factor in the middle of Beeston Square where more than 500 people attended to watch 25 acts on stage. We showed the local community that it is the minority that reflects this negative image. We were successful in our campaign and if elected as an Member of Youth Parliament I hope to carry on changing people’s views on youth.

We need to show society that by putting us down they are putting tomorrow’s future down. I would give youth the chance to have their opinions and ideas voiced locally and nationally. As youth we face many problems daily, these range from the amount of money we have for socialising with friends, getting to college each day, buying books we need for our education re: bullying, drugs and teen pregnancy etc. I understand the role of an Member of Youth Parliament and I am confident I will be able to fill the role due to my outgoing and confident personality and the ease in which I am able to put my point across to people."
