The commonwealth Youth Programme is an international development agency that works to give young people  aged between 15-19 skills, confidence and ways to build better futures for themselves, as well as their families and communities.

The youth programme has regional centres in

  • Africa
  • Asia
  • Caribbean
  • South Pacific

The Commonwealth Youth Programme believes young people throughout the commonwealth have a lot of contributions to make in their countries. Young people are encouraged to become active citizens who understand they have rights as well as responsibilities. They help develop projects that create opportunities for the communities they live in.

For the next few years the Commonwealth youth programme aims to focus on four main areas, which hope to

  • Provide skills, resources and contacts for young people to create their own business ventures
  • Strengthen youth networks so that they help young people more effectively
  • Work with governments to make young people active citizens, who have a say in how the countries are run
  • Share experiences, results and best practices across countries and regions
  • Provide skill in information and communication technology for young people
  • Help young people play a greater part in economic and social development
