Youth Initiative Grant - Opportunity Fund Here are some examples of ways young people have chosen to spend the Youth Initiave Grant so far: London Residential: Ollerton / Edwinstowe Youth Group received £5000 to take 17 young people on a residential to London at the end of May / beginning of June 2007. This residential included a trip to China Town, a go on the London Eye, a visit to Madam Tussauds and an opportunity to see Lion King The Musical. The residential was part of a cultural awareness project run within the Duke of Edinburgh and Girls Group in Ollerton. The residential was designed and planned to complement and enhance young people' cultural development as well as provide new experiences for the young people. Cultural Diversity Day Event: Young People from Acre Youth Centre in Kirkby in Ashfield received £1,725 for a Diversity Event in November 2007 to help people understand different cultures. They planned African drumming, dance, drama, promotion of Fair Trade and Worlds Aid charity, cooking and art workshops. 39 young people attended. Princes Trust Team Challenge: A group of young people on a personal development course with The Princes Trust took a group of disabled people from Headway House (a charity who support people with brain injuries) on a trip to Emmerdale Farm country. The young people on the course were working to obtain a City and Guilds Qualification in Personal Teamwork and Community Skills and this project enabled them to complete the module "Helping Others in Need". All young people on the course were unemployed, had low expectations and had struggled in life, it is hoped that the course will help them gain necessary skills to obtain employment and lead a more fulfilling life.
