Broxtowe Youth Council has decided to confront the issue of alcohol misuse amongst young people and its potential risks to health, both physical and mental, safety and social standing.
Is this you or your friend? - Often involved in fights or arguments when they have been drinking;
- Can't remember what happened the night before?
- Often has casual or unprotected sex after drinking, but might not remember who with;
- Drinks on their own or tries to hide their drinking from others;
- Always turns to drinking alcohol to escape their problems.
|
Our Aims are: - To raise awareness of the dangers of playing 'drinking games.'
- Make a DVD on alcohol issues that concern young people for Schools and Youth Centres;
- Meet with the Health Minister and possibly the Prime Minister to discuss young peoples' concerns;
- Send a questionnaire out to all Schools and Youth Centres about alcohol;
- Work with Trading Standards Officers to see how easy it is to buy alcohol underage;
- Work in partnership with Queens Medical Alcohol Team;
- Consult with Police, Doctors, DAAT Team, PCT, Alcohol Agencies;
- Consult with young people who have had problems with alcohol.
|
Be Aware... Broxtowe Youth Council know that young people will drink, so if you do.... be aware !!! - Know your limits.... and stick to them!
- Eat before you go out... drinking on an empty stomach gets you drunk quicker;
- Sip your drink... pace yourself;
- Try a non alcoholic drink between alcohol;
- Don't mix alcohol with drugs or medication;
- If you think you may have a problem with alcohol.... don't be afraid to ask for help;
- Always keep hold of your drink... keep it in sight to stop it getting spiked;
- If you are walking home slightly drunk.... keep away from the kerb, try not to walk home alone;
- Catch a taxi rather than walk - don't be afraid to ring Mum or Dad, they would rather you be safe!
- Never swap or share drinks with somebody else.
