The Fruit and Vegetables group includes all of the following type of fruits and vegetables
|
Fruit and vegetables give you lots of vitamins and chemicals called antioxidants which keep you healthy. These can even prevent you from getting some cancers. They also contain fibre which is great for keeping your digestive system healthy. Because fruit and vegetables are low in calories and high in fibre (which keeps you feeling full) eating plenty will help control your weight. It is important to eat a wide variety of fruit and vegetables – this way you get the whole range of all the important nutrients, vitamins and minerals these foods give. You must have heard the ‘five-a-day’ rule – put it into practice!
If you are not keen on certain fruit and vegetables, give them another go - try preparing them differently or mix them with other foods like yoghurt or cheese. This should help.
Easy ways to get your five a day:
- Have a glass of fruit juice or a fruit smoothie.
- Add dried fruit to your porridge and cereals.
- Polish off a banana sandwich.
- Add fresh, tinned or dried fruit to yoghurt.
- Feast on crunchy carrot and celery sticks with dips.
- Make tomato salsa for fun and use as a dip.
