No Smoking Day
No Smoking Day 2008 saw 1.2 million smokers kick the habit and even more people are expected to take part in this year on Wednesday 11th March 2009. No Smoking Day is organised by a charity of the same name which is based in London and funded by a coalition of governmental and voluntary sector organisations. 'NSD aims to help people who want to stop smoking by creating a supportive environment for them, and by highlighting the many sources of help available to people who want to quit'. The theme for this years No Smoking Day focuses on the credit crunch and the fact many smokers habit can cost them over £2,000 a year. The strapline for 2009, 'take the first step', is an invitation to use No Smoking Day to make a lifelong change.

Global Youth Service Day
The 21st annual Global Youth Service Day is April 24th-26th, 2009! It is the annual celebration of young volunteers when millions of young people in countries everywhere highlight and carry out thousands of community projects. It is organised by Youth Service America and the Global Youth Action Network.

Volunteers Week
Volunteers’ Week will turn the ripe old age of 25 in 2009. This is the national celebration of volunteers and volunteering which takes place on 1 to 7 June each year. Volunteers week helps to raise the profile of England's 22 million volunteers while encouraging others to get involved.

World Environment Day
World Environment Day is held on 5 June every year. It is the main event through which the United Nations (UN) raises worldwide awareness of the environment. The day aims to enhance political attention and actions. The slogan for World Environment Day 2008 was "Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy"

Sport Relief
Sport Relief takes place in July. Sport Relief, 'harnesses the power of sport to change lives for the better'. Part of this is Sainbury's Sport Relief Mile, which people take part in to raise money through sponsorship. Money raised is spent by Comic Relief to help vulnerable people in the UK and the world's poorest countries.

International Youth Day
International Youth Day is a United Nations (UN) intiative. Every year it has a different focus and the focus for 2008 was “Youth and Climate Change: Time for Action”. International Youth Day is always held on the 12th of August.
