East Midlands Ambulance logo The review into the Patient Transport Service (PTS) was carried out by the Joint Health Committee made up of councillors from Nottinghamshire County Councillor and Nottingham City Council.

The review revealed that the service was struggling to meet even modest targets for the time taken to deliver patients for non-emergency appointments - with only 37% of patients arriving at the Queen's Medical Centre or City Hospital, within 30 minutes of their appointment times.

Members were also unhappy at the length of wait for patients returning home after a hospital appointment and critical of a lack of information for patients.

The East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) responded to recommendations in the review, and patients have already seen signs of improvement from the introduction of a ‘zoning system’ to ensure more patients are picked up and taken to clinics on time, with better communications and improved training.

Over 1000 more patients in Notts have arrived on time for their hospital or clinic appointments following the intervention of the Joint Health Scrutiny Committee.

  • The review has been submitted for a national scrutiny award into joint working.
