Managing Attendance in Schools
This review follows on from the recent School Attendance & Support Review to consider how early interventions within schools to tackle absence can differ between schools, so that a single policy reflecting best practice might be adopted across the county.

13 October 2008
The first meeting of the select committee heard from the Council’s Education Welfare Service on the guidance given to schools in dealing with absence and from three schools in Nottinghamshire on how they interpret the County Council's absence policy.

17 November 2008
Members visited primary and secondary schools in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire to listen to the experiences of head teachers and other key staff about measures used and the success of different schemes, to encourage and improve attendance in schools.

8 December 2008
Members were given an opportunity at the final meeting of the select committee to consider any further information and to agree recommendations in the final report.
