Critical Infrastructure
After two recent flooding reviews revealed the potential vulnerability of the critical infrastructure, this review is considering the resilience of the infrastructure in Nottinghamshire - such as energy supply, health provision and transport - in response to severe events.
The select committee is expected to complete its review in March.

Members heard from Rob Fisher and Jacqui Towndrow from the County Council Emergency Planning Team on the Civil Contingencies Act and the County Council response to the legislation.

24 November 2008
Members heard from Severn Trent Water and Central Networks on their response to the flooding in Gloucestershire and their contingency arrangements to respond to an emergency in Nottinghamshire to ensure the supply of water and electricity. Gloucestershire experienced a severe threat to the critical infrastructure during the floods of July 2007, when the near loss of an electricity substation would have cut power to 450,000 people and the water supply to 150,000 homes.

15 December 2008
Members of the select committee heard from Lieutenant Colonel Andy McCombe the Joint Regional Liaison Officer for the East Midlands on the assistance provided by the armed forces to civil authorities, particularly in response to an emergency. Members also heard from Vic McMillen from the Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service and Geoff Alvis from the East Midlands Ambulance Service, on their response planning for an extreme event involving mass casualties and how they maintain levels of service for the rest of the region.
