District Councils

There are seven Borough/District Councils and one Unitary Council in Nottinghamshire. They are responsible for services such as:

  • housing
  • collecting council tax
  • pest control
  • refuse collection
  • parks and leisure centres.

Democracy Week

District Councils in Nottinghamshire engage in Democracy Week each year during October.  Here are the 2007 leaflets about Democracy Week in your area with useful contacts and telephone numbers.

Need to register to vote?


To be able to vote (if you are 18 years or over)you must be on the current electoral register. Contact the Electoral Registration Officer at your local borough/district council office which serves the area where you live.  Once you have registered you will be able to vote in the appropriate borough/district, county, parish, national and European elections.

Local Strategic Partnership

LSP is a multi-agency body that brings together different parts of the voluntary, community, public and private sector - ensuring that by working together plans are more joined up and services are delivered to meet local communities' needs.  LSPs tackle complex issues that require more than one organisation to work together to achieve improvements.

Ways to get involved

Join a group in your area eg Residents' Association.  Local groups can help improve facilities where they live and services they receive.
