Online services

This section looks at what the Council is doing to meet central Government targets on providing services electronically. This work is in two parts:

  • Transformation Government
  • implementing electronic government.

Transformation Government - what is it?

If you've renewed a library book over the phone or online then you've taken part in Transformation Government.

The Government wants councils to make more services available online or via the telephone for the convenience of the customer.

The Government wants public sector organisations, such as health and local councils and so on, to work together so the public can get access to the services they need as easily as possible.

This will require long term, strategic change in the way we do business, how we use technology and how technology and skills are utilised to support this change.

The County Council's approach to Transformation Government will be developed in line with the strategic plan, All Together Better, which was approved in April 2006 and will build on our implementing electronic government work.

Implementing electronic government

We want to use the best of what technology can offer to help us be efficient, effective and customer focused.

Central Government set local authorities some national targets. These presented some tough challenges:

  • all services should be accessible electronically if possible
  • councils should use technology to transform the way we work - becoming more efficient and effective.

A final implementing electronic government return 2006 (IEG6) - a document explaining our plans to implement electronic government - was submitted to central Government in April 2006, indicating our progress towards meeting these targets.

The County Council has made significant progress in this area. We recognise that we still have more work to do to improve the options available to you if you want to make an enquiry or apply for a service and then in how we manage these requests and deliver services to you.

In 2002 we set out our overall strategy to deliver electronic government by March 2006. The 'statement' describes the role the e-government is expected to play in the wider drive to transform local authority organisations and service delivery for the benefit of all citizens and customers.

Report a pot hole or problem with a street light

To report a non-urgent fault or problem with a highway (e.g. streetlight, sign or bollard, road, pavement or verge) you need to know which district you live in so the appropriate highways team can investigate the problem.

If you are unsure of the district you live in you can use the postcode finder on our find my district page.

To report the fault, select your district from the list or map and fill in the online form.
