Extra investment
Due to a 43% increase in referrals to children’s social care in the last 12 months, an additional £1.7m a year has been allocated to meet this pressure on our service.
£3.1m will pay for Specialist Placements for children in care.
£1.2m for the Building Schools for the Future programme.
£800,000 extra will be spent meeting the increased demand for home to school transport.
Current levels of spending will continue for our popular school meals and for our road safety work with schools- including school crossing patrols.
Service changes
Youth Service
There will be £401,000 less funding for the Youth Service – around 4% of the total budget - and a £315,000 reduction in support for Connexions - around 5% of the Connexions total budget. Connexions helps youngsters age 16-25 make choices about their education, jobs and training. However, this should have a minimal impact on the majority of their services.
Play Service
Some reductions in grant to the Play Service’s play service development work along with our grants to Play Forums.
Dukeries Community College and Sutton Centre School
There will be a 25 percent reduction instead of a 50 percent reduction in budgets for non-school activities at Dukeries Community College and the Sutton Centre College in 2010/11. The 50 percent reduction will take place in 2011/12 and all funding will be removed in 2012/13. Likewise with proposed funding for community activities for Dukeries Community College.
No other schools in the county receive extra funding for community resources from the County Council.
Sandhill Adventure Base
Sandhill Adventure Base in Worksop will close – it was often vandalised and was underused. Other alternatives are still available.

Disadvantaged Families will no longer get free school uniforms when children move to secondary school, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Sports development
