County councillors are entitled to allowances. There are rules and standards that govern how much can be paid, and in what circumstances.

Conduct
The County Council is committed to high standards of ethical behaviour and probity by its elected representatives. County Councillors need to ensure that all duties are performed in compliance with the highest standards of probity and integrity.
Members must sign up to the County Council’s local Code of Conduct, based on national guidelines. The revised Code of Conduct was agreed by the County Council at its meeting on 19th July 2007 and came into force on 1st October 2007. The Code of Conduct forms part five of the Council's Constitution.

Anyone who believes that a Councillor may have breached the Code of Conduct can make a complaint to the County Council's Standards Committee.
Interests
Councillors must declare any business, financial or other interests that they have, that could conflict with their duties as a county councillor.

Councillors must declare within 28 days of receipt any gift or hospitality to the value of £25 or more.
The Council has a Constitution, which sets out the legal rules it must follow. The Constitution sets out how the Council operates, how decisions are made and the procedures which must be followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people.
