Local Transport Studies

Local Accessibility Transport Studies are carried through consultation with local residents, stakeholders (such as district councils) and interest groups to develop local strategies to tackle local problems.

The studies aim to:

  • Encourage local empowerment through consultation on local transport issues
  • Help improve quality of life through developing sustainable district centres (including rural centres) that are safe, healthy and attractive places to live work and visit
  • Enhance and maintain accessibility to local services
  • Make the best use of the existing network through improving walking, cycling and public transport networks; maintaining satisfactory access by car; and ensuring appropriate car parking facilities and controls
  • Reduce the need to travel through promoting ‘smarter’ and healthier travel choices, such as public transport, cycling and walking
  • Aid regeneration through helping to promote the role of district centres as shopping and service centres, promoting leisure and tourism and add to the attractiveness of the area
  • Ease congestion and improve air quality by reducing traffic dominance through effective traffic management.
