Local bus service strategy

Photo of Trent Barton rainbow 5 busNottinghamshire County Council has produced two comprehensive strategies for developing the bus network in Nottinghamshire, one for North Nottinghamshire and one for Greater Nottingham.  The North Nottinghamshire strategy covers the districts of Ashfield (excluding Hucknall), Bassetlaw, Mansfield and Nerwark & Sherwood.  The Greater Nottingham strategy is produced jointly with Nottingham City Council and covers the boroughs of Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe, as well as Hucknall and the City of Nottingham.

The bus strategies set out this authority’s policies for making best use of its powers and duties and provides the focus for improving the quality of bus services in Nottinghamshire.

Nottinghamshire County Council is also committed in its Strategic Plan to recognising the need to provide better information about local bus services.  This has led to the need to take a co-ordinated approach to the delivery of information. This must ensure that:

  • the needs of the users of public transport services are met in the short, medium and long term
  • information is provided to encourage new users to public transport
  • the roles of both bus operators and the County Council in the delivery of this information is defined.
