Length of course: 1 day

Course outline:

This course is suitable for everyone involved in the care setting for example owners, managers, care staff, support workers and volunteers.

The aim is to update and increase knowledge of equality and diversity issues in relation to good practice in delivery of employment and service provision.

To achieve the aim, the course will cover:

  • definition and use of the terms and principles of equality and diversity
  • best practice guidelines / moral issues
  • identification and understanding of the key legislation
  • stereotyping and occupational / social segregation
  • issues of direct and indirect discrimination
  • developing and using policy and procedure
  • issues in the Care Sector.

The course achieves its objectives through a mixture of:

  • short, structured input from the tutor
  • small and large group work
  • self assesment questionnaires and exercises
  • case studies.

Detailed course notes and copies of exercises provide portfolio evidence for:

  • National Minimum Standards
  • Common Induction Standards
  • Care Levels 2, 3, 4
  • Registered Managers Award:
