Adult placement scheme

A place to live or short breaks in family homes in Nottinghamshire

What is the Adult Placement Scheme?

The Scheme is part of the Nottinghamshire County Council's Adult Social Care and Health Department. We provide accommodation in family homes across Nottinghamshire for adults with learning disabilities.

We make sure that the family:

  • will include an approved and trained Adult Placement Carer
  • can provide the support you need to live in your new home.

Who is the Adult Placement Scheme for?

The Scheme is for people aged 18 or over with moderate to severe learning disabilities.

We may be able to support you if you live in Nottinghamshire and:

  • are looking for a place to live

OR

  • want a short break away from home

How do I know if I will like the home?

We know that everyone is different. The things you want from a home and the way you want to live is special to you.

So we talk to you to find out the sorts of things you are looking for.

We then try to find a family home that may suit you.

We arrange for you to spend some time in your new home and with your Adult Placement carer. It gives you time to get to know the place and the family.

You can have several of these before deciding whether you want to stay there or not.

What can I expect from the Scheme?

You can expect:

  • the support you need to live in your chosen home
  • that your home is checked so that it is safe for you
  • that your carer is trained and supported to meet your needs
  • to have your own room

Is there a charge?

Yes. There is a charge for staying with an Adult Placement Scheme carer in their home.

You will need to have a financial assessment to decide how much you will need to pay towards the cost of your stay. For this we will need to know about your income and money you have saved.

There is no charge for your introductory visits.
