Here are just a few examples of how our investment in services is paying off:

Olympic glory - Notts invests more than any other county is developing sporting talent – which helped Notts achieve 3 gold medals, one silver and one bronze in the Beijing Olympics and 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze in the Paralympics.

GCSE results up - provisional GCSE results show that 62% of pupils in Notts obtained 5 or more A* - C grades, 7% up on last year.

Government inspectors give us the thumbs up - the Audit Commission and Ofsted have given a positive verdict on two key inspections of County Council services. Ofsted inspectors have rated the Children and Young People’s Partnership as 'good' a really positive result for the Partnership’s first ever inspection. The Audit Commission has awarded a 'performing well' score for the Council’s Corporate Assessment – a review of how well the Council listens to and acts on the needs of local communities.

New card to help disabled people - we’ve introduced the disabled person’s registration   card, believed to be the first of its kind in the country. The card is to help disabled people who don’t look obviously disabled.  It enables people to prove they have a disability if they are challenged when using disabled toilets, if they need help whilst out shopping or need any other help whilst out and about.

More support for young families - we opened 49 children’s centre providing practical help and support to over 29,000 children under 5 and their families

Your new look libraries - we’ve invested over £2m refurbishing some of our libraries.  This is more than just a lick of paint –new lighting, new furniture, somewhere to grab a drink, surf the web and of course lots of new books, cds and dvds. In June the County's libraries saw a 56% rise in new membership – taking us to the top of the league of County Councils according to the Reading Agency.

Pie chart showing the % of Council budget spent by service area: 25% services for children and young people, 19% services for adults, 21% services for older people, 17% tackling environmental issues, 10% working in the community, 1% running the Council, 7% loan repayments and interest
