What is mini basketball?
Mini-basketball is a game for girls and boys who play in mixed teams on a ring height of 8’ 6”, compared to a full size goal of 10’.
One of the rules is that ‘All must play’ in at least two of the four periods.
The ball is size 5 compared to the full size 7.
103 primary schools take part in the County Council programme.

There are a number of clubs for girls and boys of primary and secondary school age to play locally.

If you want to play at a higher level:
Join a local club or one of the Nova Centurion Squads which prepare players for inter-regional play.
Mini Nova Squads are run every two weeks at Newark, Retford, Mansfield and Nottingham. Players from school year 7 and below are encouraged to join their nearest venue.
At the end of the season (Easter) girls and boys teams are selected for each region, to compete in a county event.

Mini basketball in primary schools
When a school joins:
- Children are introduced to mini basketball through one free coaching session
- followed by a minimum of four lessons
- these can be adapted to class or school team coaching sessions
- the school then hosts a coaching/friendly match fixture with another school team.
How much does it cost?
- Registration fee: £12.00 (includes automatic affiliation to Mini-Basketball England)
- Team Session: £8.00
- Class Session: £14.00.
What equipment is needed?
- Netball rings can be adapted for early sessions
- Basketball goals of all shapes and sizes can easily adapt to any space for mini-basketball, whether indoors or out
- We provide coaching staff with balls, bibs, scoresheets and lesson plans for each session
- The mini basketball is a size 5 and children below scjool year 4 may even prefer a size 3 mini ball
- Players require rubber soled cross trainers or basketball shoes/boots
- T-shirt, shorts and socks or variations on this depending on the facility (indoor/outdoor) and the temperature.
