World record and second Olympic gold for

Rebecca Adlington

Rebecca Adlington with one of her gold medals.

Rebecca lead almost from the start in the 800m freestyle final, breaking the world record by over 2 seconds and becoming the most successful British swimmer of the last 100 years. Her achievement equals Dame Kelly Holmes's double medal haul at the Athens Olympics four years ago.

16 year old Becky finished in an impressive 12th place with a total points score of 59.450 in the gymnastic women's individual all around final The highest ever placing in British women's gymnastics.

She scored 15.625 on the asymmetric bars, 15.025 on the vault, 14.700 on the beam and 14.100 for her floor routine.

Becky qualified in the last place of 24 finalists, so she had an outstanding performance to reach 12th place.



Well Done David!David Florence

David Florence has gained a silver for Great Britain in the C1 canoeing event! Born in Aberdeen, David now lives in Nottinghamshire, enabling him to train full time at our National Watersports Centre.

Jess Sylvester reaches finals in 4 x 100m freestyle relay

The GB women’s 4x100m freestyle team (Francesca Halsall, Caitlin McClatchey, Jessica Sylvester, Nottinghamshire and Melanie Marshall) clocked 3.38.18 - breaking the national record and finishing in seventh position.

Jess, who lives in Nottinghamshire and is coached by Bill Furniss said, "I'm so happy to be a part of this quartet which has gone faster than any other British Team in history.

"We had nothing to lose and just gave a great performance and I'm so happy with how I swam."

Well done to Nottinghamshire's Rebecca Adlington, swimming the 400m freestyle in four minutes and 3.22 seconds to take the Gold medal in Beijing, with Jo Jackson, another British swimmer, winning the Bronze medal.

Rebecca is the first British woman to win gold since Anita Lonsborough in 1960.

Rebecca is coached by Bill Furniss - Nottinghamshire County Council Swimming Coach and Development Officer, congratulations to both!
