Cerebral Palsy (CP) Sport is the only disability sports charity in the UK which is dedicated to working with people with cerebral palsy. By encouraging participation in sport, they help children and adults with cerebral palsy to boost their physical and mental fitness.
CP Sport offers sporting opportunities to anyone with cerebral palsy, regardless of their age or ability level – all are welcome to participate. They organise a wide range of sporting activities across the country from development and training days through to regional and national level competitions across a number of sporting disciplines.
CP Sport’s key aim is to give each individual that we work with a meaningful sporting experience that helps them to achieve their personal goals – whether that’s just to have fun, to keep fit or to achieve an elite performance in their field.
Through their work, each and every person is given the opportunity to realise their true sporting potential, whatever their ability.
Many of CP Sport’s members have gone on to represent their country at international level, and they are incredibly proud of the fact that their members have won more Paralympic medals than any other disability organisation.
Participation in sport carries an array of physical benefits for people with cerebral palsy such as helping to improve their mobility and muscle control. But the social and psychological advantages are perhaps the most important for our members. Through their activities with CP Sport, members grow in confidence and build life-long friendships as they compete and socialise with others who share the same difficulties as themselves. Their events often act as an impromptu support network for parents, carers and siblings as they take the opportunity to share their experiences, exchange advice and information and talk through problems.

Marie Curie Nurses work at the heart of the community to provide care for terminally ill patients in their own homes. There are 36 Marie Curie Nurses in Nottinghamshire providing a free nursing service for people who want to be cared for at home at the end of their lives.
Working through the night or during the day, their nurses make it possible for people to live their last days at home, rather than go into hospital. Their nurses are also there for families and carers – providing practical and emotional support at what can be an exhausting time.
Research, and their own experience, has shown that the vast majority of people, if facing a terminal condition, would prefer to die in their own home. However, only about a quarter of people have that final wish fulfilled.
Marie Curie Cancer Care is working to make that simple wish a reality for thousands more patients across the UK. And, in Nottinghamshire, they’ve recognised an urgent need to reach more people. They are committed to making these plans a reality in 2010, but can only do it with the support of people like you.
Their Nurses have never been busier and that’s why Marie Curie Cancer Care needs to fund more local nurses. Last year they provided more than 21,000 hours of nursing care in Nottinghamshire – providing free care for more than 350 terminally ill people.
As demand for their nursing service continues to grow, they expect these numbers to rise still further in the next 12 months. They need to raise £316,000 to provide the service here in Nottinghamshire, so that’s why they’ve launched their Marie Curie Nottinghamshire Nursing Appeal.
Marie Curie Cancer Care is delighted to be involved with the Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride and wishes to thank all the participants for their support. We hope you have fantastic day.

Rainbows is the children’s hospice for the East Midlands and cares for children between the ages of 0 and 19 who have sadly been diagnosed with a life-limiting condition.
Whilst offering respite, palliative and terminal care for children, Rainbows also offers support to the whole family and in particular brothers and sisters who have to cope with the distress of witnessing the deterioration of a much loved family member.
Rainbows receives no direct government funding and every year have to raise in excess of £2 million just to keep the doors open to the children and their families who come to stay.
Sadly the need for Rainbows will never disappear but happily with help such as yours we will be there to meet this need.
This year sees the launch of a major appeal ‘Building for the Future’. The appeal will raise money to redesign the current hospice facilities to allow young people over the age of 18, to also use the hospice facilities at the same time as the children which currently isn’t possible.
This appeal is so important and will benefit all the children, young people and families in the care of the hospice. The improved facilities will help current hospice services expand further to meet the needs of these very special people.

You Too Can Make A Dream Come True
All over the UK children are bravely suffering from life threatening illnesses and many of them have just one wish. These wishes are varied, often expensive and many families are not able to afford to make these wishes come true. However, with the help of the supporters of When You Wish Upon A Star, over 10 000 wishes have already been granted.
Making wishes come true is not only beneficial to the poorly child, but also to the parents, as they see their child’s tears transformed into laughter and frowns turned upside down. The charity feels that it is of the utmost importance to involve the parents and siblings in the special day of the very special child.
In order for When You Wish Upon A Star to carry on granting the wishes of poorly children everywhere, we are reliant on the generosity of people like you. With your help, we can make these children’s wishes a reality.
