Improve your library: a self evaluation process

School libraries can provide a flexible place for learning where project work, individual study, group research, reading and the teaching of ICT can all take place.

As part of your whole school self-evaluation, the DCFS model provides a tool to enable those responsible for school libraries to assess the quality of what they provide, as well as providing practical advice and suggestions for improving the way that the library supports pupil learning.

The documents (covering both primary and secondary school libraries) can be downloaded from:

The Education Library Service offers a service on developing your new library.  If you would like any help or support on this, please contact us.
