Walker in Cotgrave Country Park

Cotgrave Country Park (grid reference SK648365) is located on the northern edge of the Nottinghamshire town of Cotgrave, some eight miles (12 km) by road from Nottingham city centre. Follow signs to Cotgrave from the A52, A606 or A46. Car access to the park is via Hollygate Lane. The nearest postcode is NG12 3HE. There is also pedestrian access from Colliery Lane.

Parking and facilities

The park is open from dawn until dusk. Parking for the Country Park is at the Hollygate Lane entrance

Parking is free. There is a height barrier (2.15 metres) at the entrance to the car park.

There is bench seating at various locations around the park. At present there are no toilets or bad weather shelters at the park.

Dogs are welcome in the park but please keep them under control and clean up after your pet. Dog bins are available.

What can I see and do?

The park is a great place to get away from it all in a relaxed and open green setting. The site includes woodland, wetland, lakes and informal grassland, and part of Grantham canal runs through the park.

Horse riders riding along the horse trail at Cotgrave Country Park With around five kilometres of paths and trails, there are plenty of different routes for gentle or brisk walks, jogging or running. There is also an extensive orienteering course, for which a free leaflet is available on request. Most paths are stone surfaced and suitable for walkers, wheelchairs, prams and pushchairs, but please be aware that some of the lower lying paths may get wet and muddy during spells of bad weather.

There's a wide variety of natural habitats at Cotgrave Country Park, including the lovely Heron Lake, conservation areas and a Nature Trail. There is also a horse riding trail of approximately 1.3 km around the edge of the site, with sections of surfaced gallops.

Getting involved

Cotgrave Park The park holds regular volunteer days so why not come along and lend a hand with useful conservation work or park management tasks. No experience is needed and we will provide training, equipment and refreshments.

The Friends of Cotgrave Country Park is a local supporters' group. Members meet in Cotgrave to discuss issues concerning the park, its users, wildlife and local community.
