Alterations to the fabric or furnishings of Anglican churches and parsonage houses require the grant of a faculty. This was usually granted by the bishop’s consistory court but in Nottinghamshire application was originally made to the court of the Archdeaconry of Nottingham. A citation giving the details of the work would be issued by the court and read out in the church, or latterly placed on the notice board, to give opportunity for discussion or objection. A faculty could then be granted to allow the work to be carried out. The faculty papers, often including plans and drawings, are Ground floor plan of Holy Trinity church, Everton, 1912 - reference: XBC/37S therefore a major source for the study of ecclesiastical architecture ranging from the reordering or restoration of churches to the installation of stained glass windows and monuments.

Holy Trinity Church, Everton, in its earliest form probably consisted of a nave without aisles, a chancel with a square east end and a sturdy tower. There appears to have been little structural alteration to the church until recent times. In 1841 the chancel was extended eastwards and finished with an octagonal apse and an annex was added to the south side of the chancel.

By 1923 the church was in need of further restoration work and the vicar, Reverend F S Curtis instigated a restoration fund to help raise the money for this work.

Photographs can sometimes be useful sources to trace a building's history. This photograph of the Everton bell ringers outside the church, dated c 1926, clearly shows an unaltered South Porch, indicating that the proposed enlargements detailed in the ground floor plan above were not undertaken.
