The Future of the Marshes
The entire area covered by the present Broad Marsh Centre and Narrow Marsh is due to be totally redeveloped as an even larger retail centre. The new centre will also take in some surrounding streets, or parts of them, and a new traffic system will be created for the area.
Yet the traditional community of Broad Marsh and Narrow Marsh lives on in archival documents, photographs and other sources of information that can enable us to recreate this vibrant and lively community. Some of these sources are recalled in our book, 'Turning Back the Pages of Old Broad Marsh and Narrow Marsh', which was compiled by archives staff and published by Nottinghamshire County Council in 2007. It includes photographs of maps, old streets, advertisements and early images from the Broad Marsh Shopping Centre.
