The Will of George Africanus
Last Will and Testament (reference: PR/NW G Africanus Nottm 14 Jan 1835)
This is the last Will and Testament of George Africanus. It was written on 14 February 1833. In the will, George (described as a yeoman) bequeathed all his 'household goods and furniture' to his wife, Esther, as long as she did not marry again. If she did, all his property would pass to his daughter, Hannah, as long as she did not 'cohabit' again with her husband Samuel Cropper. This was an unusual bequest.
George bequeathed his property on Chandlers Lane, under trusteeship, to Hannah. Some of the rents from the property were to be applied for 'my afflicted granddaughter Sarah Ann Cropper', the only child of Hannah and Samuel.
The will was proved at the Nottingham Archdeaconry court on 14 January 1835.
