Archives enquiries
- Free access to original records or copies of records is provided in the archives search room. Find out more on our visiting archives page.
- Archive enquiries can be made by letter, fax, or email. Please visit our contact archives page.
- Staff are able to provide basic information about our holdings by telephone, but more detailed enquiries can only be responded to as written enquiries.
- Enquiries about the nature of our holdings and suggested avenues of research will be answered free of charge. A reply will normally be sent within three working days.
- Please include your postal address if you are requesting material to be sent to you.
- Please do not send additional material or return copying request forms as attachments to e-mail as they cannot be dealt with. Instead send by fax or letter.
- We charge a fee to carry out the research necessary in our holdings to tell you whether or not we hold specific information. Our fees are set out in the information on Nottinghamshire Archives Research Service [PDF 55KB]
. We also charge for copies of documents. If your enquiry relates to records likely to be available for general access we also provide the names of independent researchers who on payment of a fee agreed with you will undertake this research. See the list of independent researchers.
- Most records are available for general access but a few are restricted in whole or in part because information in them is exempt information under the Freedom of Information Act or the Environmental Information Regulations. Restrictions are usually indicated in our catalogue and will be reviewed on request. There is no charge for this review, but searches in restricted access records are subject to a charge.
- Enquiries and requests for review of restricted access records should be sent to the Principal Archivist. Please visit our contact archives page.
