Catchment areas

All types of school - Community, Voluntary Controlled, and Foundation, as well as some Voluntary Aided schools - are surrounded by a defined geographical area known as their catchment area.

There is no guarantee of a place for pupils resident within a catchment area or for pupils who subsequently move at a later date. Living in a catchment area can, however, give pupils a higher priority for admission to a school over other pupils who live outside the catchment area.

Catchment areas for church schools are generally based on parish boundaries and often cover a wide area. Sometimes, they 'overlap' catchment areas for other schools; sometimes they have an area which no other school serves.

Catchment areas help schools to identify their communities and give parents an indication of their local school.

You can find your catchment area school here.
