Trailblazer
Trailblazer is an outdoor, environmental and sustainable education scheme which provides a purposeful framework for learning and is available to young people of all ages and abilities. It provides credit and recognition for their achievements, encourages a positive approach to learning and helps develop active and healthy lifestyles.
Whilst the content of Trailblazer is focused on sustainability, outdoor and environmental activities and issues, the benefits for young people participating go beyond practical involvement. The processes and key themes which run through the scheme equip participants with the ability to maximise their potential, to develop healthy and varied interests and to make a positive contribution to the environment, to their own lives and to society.
Trailblazer provides opportunities for:
- study and direct experience of the environment and adventurous activities which provide challenge and first-hand experience of the outdoors
- care for the environment through activities which make a positive contribution
- learning about and sharing personal responses to the environment.
How to get involved
Trailblazer is operated through schools which are accredited to run the scheme. A teacher in each school acts as the Trailblazer School Co-ordinator.
If your child would like to become involved in Trailblazer, you should contact your Trailblazer School Co-ordinator. If your school is not currently involved in the scheme, speak to the Headteacher.
