Wider Opportunities

An exciting whole class instrumental/vocal programme with a music curriculum bias. A wide range of instruments are available including African and Latin percussion, Taiko drumming, ukulele, recorder and all the more familiar orchestral instruments.

In partnership with the school this programme gives an opportunity for the whole class to learn for up to one full year and develop both musical and technical skills using a wide range of resources including Arts Support Service Interactive. The programme is mainly aimed at Key Stage 2 but does have a wider reach through transition projects.

Funding is available to support both the resources needed and provide instruments.

Another exciting programme is also available, this one developing the voice and singing skills, and is linked to the national Sing Up scheme. This programme gives access to whole class and whole school learning with nationally available resources and training for teachers. The programme is aimed at Key Stage 1 and 2.

Remission Scheme

To ensure that all young people can access the full range of opportunities both Nottinghamshire County Council and the Arts Support Service have created a remission scheme for instrumental teaching which offers pupils eligible for free school meals:

• Free instrumental lessons
• Free loan of an instrument.

Curriculum Support

Instrumental and Music Teaching is able to provide:

• Continuous Professional Development - for either the whole staff or individual teachers
• Projects tailored to meet individual school needs
• Advice and support on curriculum resources including the use of ICT.
