This course is a local accreditation award designed for teachers and leaders who wish to lead groups on walks in normal countryside including Nottinghamshire and the White Peak area of Derbyshire. It is also applicable to leaders working with Duke of Edinburgh Award bronze and silver groups. This course covers the basics of navigation, group management, campcraft and dealing with emergency situations. (There is an optional lightweight camping module). The course assumes some experience of countryside walking.
To gain the award completion certificate, leaders need to provide evidence of sufficient experience, demonstrate the competence required and have a current (6-8 hours) first aid certificate.
The course includes overnight accommodation, an evening meal on Saturday and a self prepared breakfast and packed lunch on Sunday.
