On Thursday 4 November, parents, partner organisations and staff from Sure Start children’s centres across Nottinghamshire joined the Chair of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor Tom Pettingell and Cabinet Member, Councillor Philip Owen for a celebratory reception event at County Hall

The event marks the success of the Sure Start children’s centre programme in Nottinghamshire to date. The county now has 58 children centre services across the county supporting improved outcomes for children under five and their families.

Sure Start children’s centres aim to improve outcomes for all children by offering access to integrated early education and childcare, family support services, health services and training opportunities to help parents into work.

Two parents gaves speeches and recalled their individual experiences at their local centre. They talked about how their local children’s centres have supported them through parent hood and helped develop their confidence. There were first hand stories of volunteer training, peer support and examples of individual packages of family support where it is most needed.

There was also the opportunity  for individual discussions with parents and practitioners from the children’s centres and a chance to see how the centres deliver services in their communities.

Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor Tom Pettingell says “I am delighted to have hosted this event to celebrate the success of the children centres in our county. Children’s centres play a key part in helping to improve the lives of young children and their families within Nottinghamshire and it is great news that we have 58 centres operational across the county.”
