The Sure Start Children’s Centre on Westbourne View in Sutton in Ashfield has received an outstanding’ Ofsted inspection rating for their early years childcare facilities and a ‘good’ rating for the inspection of the children’s centre.

The inspection took place in early October, taking three days in total. During the inspection, inspectors spoke to parents, carers, staff, and partner organisations and also observed the centre and day-care’s work.

The children’s centre was praised for their good safeguarding procedures and the standard of the quality of care, guidance and support offer to users within the centre and the wider community.

The report noted within the main findings: “The centre’s arrangements for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults are outstanding. As a result, the care, guidance and support at all levels are exemplary. The extent to which children are safe and protected and their welfare concerns are identified and resolved is excellent.

“The good provision to develop children’s personal and social skills underpins their acquisition of skills for the future. The centre also does much to support parents and carers in developing economic stability and independence.”

Councillor Philip Owen, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Service says ‘We are really pleased with the first inspection result for the centre. It is so rewarding to hear how much parents and children value the services provided and to see first hand the positive impact that the children centre has had on people’s lives.”

The early years childcare facilities, Sunshine and Rainbows Day Care operates from dedicated rooms in the children’s centre and is managed by Nottinghamshire Community Health.

The nursery received outstanding grades in all the areas judged including overall effectiveness of the early year’s provision, effectiveness of the leadership and management, quality and standards of care and outcomes for children.

The report noted: “Overall the quality of the provision is outstanding. The setting meets the needs of children extremely well as it is a fully inclusive environment. The staff team are highly skilled and all children benefit from the full range of activities and resources on offer.

“Children are very happy and make extremely good progress towards the early learning goals. The manager and staff are very skilled in observing children’s development regularly and identifying the next steps in their development.”

Carla Lomas, manager of Sunshine and Rainbows Day Care, said, “We are absolutely delighted to receive an ‘outstanding’ result for the second time running. The children’s welfare is at the heart of everything we do and we are pleased that the inspectors have recognised this and praised us for the high quality of the care we provide.”
