Have your say on childcare in Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire early years and childcare services are urging parents and carers in Nottinghamshire to take part in a childcare audit to help develop current and future childcare needs.

The County Council is required under the Childcare Act 2006 to carry out an audit. This is to shape local childcare markets which are responsive to parents needs and provide sufficient high-quality and accessible childcare.

Questionnaires are being sent to 10,000 parents and carers of children in Nottinghamshire and are being given out at events across the county. Questionnaires are available to download at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/earlyyears.  Copies can also be requested by calling Nottinghamshire Families Information Service on 08449 80 80 80 or by emailing fis@nottscc.gov.uk

The findings of the audit will form a childcare sufficiency assessment and will be published in January 2011. They will be available on the Nottinghamshire County Council’s website for consultation. The final version of the assessment will be published in March 2011.

Councillor Philip Owen, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People Services said “The information gathered will provide us with a more detailed understanding of childcare needs in Nottinghamshire, now and in the future. This is an opportunity for parents and carers in the county to help shape childcare.  Their views are really important in helping us to decide how to plan new services that will be useful for them and their children.”
