Since its election in May 2010, the coalition government has had a well publicised policy intention to scrap ContactPoint.
We have now received confirmation from the Department for Education (DfE) that ContactPoint will be switched off at noon on Friday 6 August 2010. No access to the system will be available to any Local Authority or National Partner after this time. The database will then be securely deleted.
Until ContactPoint is switched off nationally, we will continue to support Shielding and Subject Access requests where we receive them through the established channels. During this interim period, we will also work with other local authorities where we have dependencies on the management of records in ContactPoint.
If you have any ContactPoint publicity leaflets or posters in stock or on public display, you should dispose of them appropriately.
Thank you for the support you have given to this project. The Government is continuing to consider the feasibility of a new signposting service for professionals to help them to support and protect the most vulnerable children, particularly when these children move areas or access services in more than one area. Further information will be available on the DfE website ( http://www.education.gov.uk) in Autumn 2010.
