The Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST)

SENDIST is an independent tribunal set up by Act of Parliament. It hears and decides parents’ appeals against the decisions of Local Authorities (LAs) about children’s special educational needs, where parents cannot reach agreement with the LA. If you want to speak to someone about making an appeal, you can contact SENDIST between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday on the SEN helpline 01325 392 555.

SENDIST also consider parents’ claims of disability discrimination in schools. You can ask any questions you have about making a claim or ask SENDIST to send you a copy of their booklet, ‘Disability Discrimination in schools: How to make a claim’ by contacting the Disability Helpline number given below.

For more information about how to make a claim about disability discrimination, contact the Disability Helpline on 0207 925 5750.

You can also find out more information about the tribunal and how to appeal by visiting the SENDIST website at www.sendist.gov.uk.

Contacting the ASENO, Parent Partnership Service or the mediation service does not affect your right to use the tribunal.
