Annual Review of Statements
The Annual Review meeting is held annually and its purpose is to review the educational provision and placement of the young person who has a statement of special educational needs.
The review meeting takes place at the young person’s school/current educational provision and is led by the head teacher or nominated representative.
The purpose of the annual review is to gather a variety of perspectives on a child’s progress and if appropriate to amend the statement to reflect newly identified needs and provision. The review should focus on what the young person has achieved as well as any difficulties that need to be resolved.
Before producing the review report the head teacher must have gathered information from the young person, their parents/carers and anyone else that the head teacher considers appropriate. This written advice should be circulated at least two weeks before the date of the meeting and will be used as the basis for the discussion at the review meeting.
Further information about the review process can be found in Chapter 9 of the SEN Code of Practice and Section 9 of the SEN Toolkit.
