Historic Buildings Record
What's the Historic Buildings Record (HBR)?
We hold copies of all the listed building descriptions within Nottinghamshire. These buildings are the ones that appear on the Secretary of State's 'List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest', prepared by the Department of Culture Media and Sport.
There are over 5,000 listed buildings in Nottinghamshire ranging from nationally important Grade I examples like Wollaton Hall, Newstead Abbey and Medieval village churches, to Grade II listed manor houses, cottages and town terraces.
For all of these buildings we hold a photograph and detailed map, as well as the official description.
In addition, a computerised copy allows a detailed search to check whether a building is listed or not.
In many cases, the Historic Buildings Record (HBR) also holds the results of the Buildings at Risk Survey, which reviews the condition of the listed buildings.
What's the HBR used for?
The HBR is useful for anyone:
- Researching the history of your home or area
- Researching particular types of historic buildings
- Looking into past and present conservation projects.
