Nature conservation

A close up photograph of a black and yellow butterfly on a leafBiodiversity is a vital part of our quality of life in Nottinghamshire. Nature conservation is the protection, maintenance, management and enhancement of biodiversity, and these activities are an important feature of the work we do, in order to help ensure that everyone has access to nature and the benefits that this brings.

Our work ranges from the design of large restoration schemes, to commenting on the impacts of planning applications on biodiversity, to the management of Local Nature Reserves, and we’ve developed strong partnerships with other environmental organisations to protect Nottinghamshire’s wildlife sites, habitats and species.

These pages provide information about the importance of biodiversity and how it has been affected by man’s activities, how biodiversity in Nottinghamshire is protected and what we do to help achieve this, and Nottinghamshire's biodiversity partnership. There is also information on how you can explore your environment and how you can help protect biodiversity.
