The Economic Regeneration Service recognises the important role that enterprise skills and capabilities play in addressing both social and economic challenges. In the Department for Education and Skills 'Review of Enterprise and the Economy in Education', Howard Davies identified 'enterprise capability' as:

"The capability to handle uncertainty and respond positively to change, to create and implement new ideas and new ways of doing things, to make reasonable risk/reward assessments and act upon them in one's personal and working life."

The development of enterprise skills in the business context can be used to developing entrepreneurs, realise new business or product development and promote self-employment as a sole route to success. In the wider context enterprise capabilities are key to success in mainstream employment and development of our communities.
